Raiders Say Goodbye to Jamarcus Russell PDF Print E-mail

There is a changing of the guard going on in the NFL right now. Tim Tebow was drafted in the first round to play quarterback with far less than first round passing ability (we'll all have to wait and see how that develops), but with a work ethic second to none.

The Raiders, on the other hand, had a kid with second to none physical ability and second to all work ethic. There are a few coaches and owners willing to mold their teams around character and not stature. The Raiders have always been the team willing to draft guys ahead of their talent for speed at wide receiver or former Heisman Trophy winners for the prestige, but they just said goodbye to a guy with all the tangibles, but lacking the intangibles.

I'm not willing to make any bets, but I would guess Russell will get a second chance in Indianapolis. Dungy's mystique still lingers and in his retirement he has made a new career of helping the helpless get back on track and the Colts are going to need a backup someday aren't they?
